Agate’s Supportive Housing & Prevention programs help individuals and families find housing, maintain stability, and build foundations for long-term independence.
Supportive Housing forms the backbone of affordable housing solutions in the Twin Cities. Through these programs, individuals and families receive personalized assistance to find housing and maintain long-term stability.
Our clients live in open market housing throughout the community—in apartments and homes provided by both for-profit and nonprofit landlords. While much of this housing is officially “affordable,” not all carries that designation. What matters most is that it’s home.
We serve as a vital resource to help our program participants create successful, lasting tenancies. Our support includes assistance with rent payments, establishing positive neighbor relationships, maintaining medical appointments, and mastering everyday activities essential to stability. We’re there for both the big challenges and the small details.
Prevention Services help individuals and families who currently have housing but are at risk of losing it. When life throws unexpected curveballs—a job loss, medical emergency, or unexpected expense—families need short-term support to regain their footing.
Our prevention services include landlord mediation, assistance with past-due rent or utilities, and connections to additional community resources. These targeted interventions make all the difference in keeping families housed and stable.
Our staff understand the intricacies of the housing market, rental processes, financial assistance programs, and landlord relationships. They actively guide clients through complex paperwork and programs, removing barriers to stability.
Beyond immediate assistance, our team coaches clients in developing skills needed for long-term independence. This combination of practical support and skill-building creates lasting change—transforming not just housing situations, but lives. When people have stable homes, they can focus on what matters most: health, family, work, and building their futures.
